Enhanced User Control over Submitted Jobs
MVS Solutions Inc. is pleased to announce the availability of TM/User Control Services™. TM/UCS is a new optional component of ThruPut Manager which provides job submitters with job management capability far more powerful than the limited facilities of JES2. Three related facilities are provided. Dependent Job Control allows users to create groups of related jobs and control the interdependencies among them. Job Timing Services gives users control over the eligibility of a job for selection by JES2, based on date and time conditions. User Hold Services allows users to hold jobs, attach annotating comments, and release them. Users can specify appropriate controls through JCL statements and an ISPF dialog. For further information, please refer to the document Announcing TM/User Control Services™. |
Software Access Control Now Available MVS Solutions Inc. is pleased to announce the availability of Software Access Control, a new facility built on ThruPut Manager's Job Binding Services application. Software Access Control uses the Job Binding mechanism to control access to licensed software, both from batch and from TSO. A product is defined in a table, showing how the product is invoked through JCL and ISPF panels and commands. A batch job that attempts to access the product is automatically routed to the LPAR where the license is available; a TSO session is allowed to access the product only if the session is active on the licensed LPAR. An attempted access from another LPAR is refused and the user is informed where to log on in order to access the product |
All Major Virtual Tape Systems Now Supported With the addition of SAMS:Vtape, ThruPut Manager now supports all of the major Virtual Tape Systems. With Version 5, new JAL Descriptors were provided to determine each job’s usage of VTS. Specifically, you can identify the number of VTS scratch tapes used, the maximum number of VTS units used by any one job step, and the total number of VTS volumes requested by the job. Initially, Version 5 only supported the IBM VTS system. Support is now provided for the StorageTek Virtual Tape Storage System, Sutmyn’s Virtual Tape Server, IBM robots in BTLS mode, the COPYCROSS facility of EMC and now Sterling Software’s SAMS:Vtape product. |
HFS Files Now Supported Hierarchical File System (HFS) is now supported within DAL. PATH, PATHDISP, PATHMODE, PATHOPTS, DSNTYPE, and FILEDATA in JCL are recognized. This further enhances ThruPut Manager's ability to help manage today's complex and often mixed environments. |
